These findings come from PowHerful research carried out by our partner, Saigon Children’s Charity, in 2023.
Lack of safe toilets, clean water, and proper hygiene facilities is still the reality for many schools in underserved areas of Vietnam. Research shows that inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) greatly increases health risks for children, including:
30% higher likelihood of diarrhea (Wolf J, Hubbard S, et al., 2022)
21% higher likelihood of pneumonia (Aiello AE, Coulborn RM, et al., 2008)
50% higher likelihood of parasitic infection (Gizaw Z, Addisu A, et al., 2019)
