Meet Lieu, whose life was changed by a $300 annual scholarship
Raised in a family of eight in Đồng Nai Province, Lieu witnessed her parents’ dedication to supporting their children’s education. For 10 years, she was a scholarship recipient of our School Scholarship Program from Grade 4 through university.
With perseverance and support, Lieu graduated with distinction in Biotechnology and earned a Master’s in Biochemistry. She now works as Deputy Sales Manager at a scientific equipment and chemicals company, proud to pursue her career independently.

How are children chosen for scholarship?
Our partner does not consider a child’s academic performance when deciding scholarship eligibility, because every child deserves equal access to education. For children in remote areas, even one additional year in school provides a safe environment for growth and contributes positively to their future opportunities.
Scholarship beneficiaries are selected based on:
Family financial situation: Average income classified as poor or near-poor according to the national poverty line, outstanding debts, and possession of assets.
Family earning capacity: Consideration of whether any family members have limited or no ability to work due to illness or disability.
Family circumstances: Including cases where one or both parents are absent, deceased, or working far from home.
Commitment to education: The student and family demonstrate willingness for the child to continue attending school.
Support from other organizations: Limited or no assistance from other NGOs or government programs.
How does a child benefit from the scholarship?
Their progress is monitored regularly and appropriate action taken, if necessary. Our partner works tirelessly to increase their skills, hope, happiness, and confidence. They meet the children and their parents every year, and visit their homes every 2 to 3 years, to reassess their circumstances and to make sure this help is given to those who need it the most. They also check with the family to see if their circumstances have changed for better or worse to see if any change is needed.
How much of my donation will actually be spent helping children in Vietnam?
All SCC-USA staff are volunteers. We have very low overhead so the vast majority of your donations are distributed to our trusted partners in Vietnam, who implement the programs.
What has the impact been from SCCUSA's partners in Vietnam?
Our focus is on giving vulnerable children the ability to transform their lives through education and employment. Over more than 30 years we have helped tens of thousands of children out of abject poverty and into rewarding careers with multinational companies, enabling them to bring prosperity to their extended families and communities.
