Providing Clean, Safe School Sanitation for Every Child

  • Home
  • Rebuilding WASH facilities in schools

Only 23% of girls feel safe using school toilets

33% don’t want to attend school because of the toilets

These findings come from PowHerful research carried out by our partner, Saigon Children’s Charity, in 2023.

Lack of safe toilets, clean water, and proper hygiene facilities is still the reality for many schools in underserved areas of Vietnam. Research shows that inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) greatly increases health risks for children, including:

  • 30% higher likelihood of diarrhea (Wolf J, Hubbard S, et al., 2022)

  • 21% higher likelihood of pneumonia (Aiello AE, Coulborn RM, et al., 2008)

  • 50% higher likelihood of parasitic infection (Gizaw Z, Addisu A, et al., 2019)

Saigon Children’s Charity USA funds projects to build and upgrade safe school water and sanitation facilities, helping children learn in health and dignity.

Our support includes:

Toilet Blocks
